2026 Toyota RAV4 Introduces Fresh Styles: Core, Rugged, Sport, and GR Sport Woodland Edition

The Toyota Motor North America has unveiled the sixth-generation RAV4, marking a significant leap forward for the brand's best-selling compact SUV. The 2026 RAV4 represents a total redesign and a commitment to electrification, offering exclusively hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrains.

**Powertrain and Performance**

The 2026 RAV4 eliminates gasoline-only engines, providing a fully electrified lineup. The standard hybrid uses a fifth-generation 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired with electric motors, delivering 226 horsepower for front-wheel drive (FWD) models and 236 horsepower for all-wheel drive (AWD) models. The plug-in hybrid variant reaches 320 horsepower, making it the most powerful RAV4 ever, with an electric-only range of up to 50 miles.

Toyota has also increased the towing capacity, with FWD and base AWD LE models offering up to 1,750 pounds, and most other trims capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds. The GR Sport trim features a sport-tuned suspension by Toyota Gazoo Racing for sharper handling.

**Styling Approaches**

Toyota introduces three distinct styling themes for the 2026 RAV4: Core, Rugged (Woodland), and Sport (GR Sport). The Core design features smooth body panels, paint-matched grilles, and wheel sizes ranging from 17 to 20 inches. The Rugged design, exclusive to the Woodland grade, includes a slightly raised, hammerhead-style front end, an exclusive black split grille with integrated Rigid Industries LED lighting, all-terrain tires, and raised roof rails with crossbars and rear activity mount. The Sport design, available in SE, XSE, and GR Sport trims, boasts a GR Functional MATRIX grille, front and rear wing-type spoilers, and unique 20-inch wheels with summer tires.

**Technology and Features**

The 2026 RAV4 comes equipped with a color touchscreen as standard across the lineup. The XSE and Woodland plug-in hybrid models offer DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes. The RAV4 also adopts Toyota's Arene software platform, enhancing safety and driver-assist technologies, though specifics are yet to be detailed.

Other notable features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, and the Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 suite. The interior materials vary by trim, with the Woodland grade featuring red-orange accents and weatherproof floor mats. Two-tone configurations, such as Supersonic Red with a black roof, are also available.

The 2026 RAV4's exterior is redesigned around Toyota's "hammerhead" front end, and a new standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is available. The vehicle is built on the TNGA-K platform, boasting improved rigidity and structural reinforcements.

Pricing for the 2026 RAV4 will be announced closer to launch. The outdoor-oriented Woodland grade will have a new look, while the first-ever RAV4 GR SPORT will debut in the United States with the 2026 model. The RAV4, when it first arrived in 1996, helped define the compact crossover segment, and the 2026 model is poised to continue this legacy with its all-electrified powertrains, increased power and range, and bold new styling for every type of driver.
