A collaboration between Ownera and Apex enables the distribution of digital assets tokenized by Ownera

In a significant move, fund administration firm Apex has partnered with Ownera, a company offering an interoperability solution for tokenized assets. This partnership, announced in 2022, is set to bring a host of benefits for Apex's clients.

Through this collaboration, Apex's clients will gain the ability to list securities on the 21X exchange, a startup planning to launch an EU regulated exchange and settlement platform for digital securities in Q1 2025. This partnership is expected to increase access to buy-side demand, custodians, and asset servicing firms.

Ownera's platform, built around its FinP2P routing network, offers an interoperability solution based on its routing technology and the open FinP2P protocol. This solution simplifies access to multiple blockchain networks by enabling seamless, real-time cross-ledger transactions and asset tokenization for institutional participants like asset managers.

The need for blockchain interoperability is increasing due to the proliferation of networks. Ownera's solution addresses this need by connecting market participants peer-to-peer and orchestrating the full lifecycle of transactions, such as repo trades, across separate digital ledgers—allowing simultaneous, precise settlement of cash and collateral with minute-level accuracy.

Ownera's routers facilitate peer-to-peer connections and application-layer orchestration, making it easier for asset managers to engage in tokenized asset transactions efficiently and securely on various platforms. This interoperability solution thus empowers asset managers to navigate and operate across multiple blockchain networks more seamlessly, reducing operational complexity and enhancing liquidity optimization.

Notably, Ownera supports connectivity with several blockchain networks, including Digital Asset's Canton, R3's Corda, Hyperledger Besu, Quorum, and others. Furthermore, FinP2P also provides connectivity to services providers such as custodians, asset servicing firms, and fund administrators.

This partnership is not Apex's first foray into the blockchain sphere. In 2021, Apex led a $25 million funding round for Inveniam, a company that provides blockchain-based automated valuation and pricing data for private assets. Apex has also invested in Tokeny, a partner of Inveniam that founded the ERC3643 standard for permissioned security tokens.

In 2023, Apex invested in Tokeny, further strengthening its commitment to the blockchain industry. However, no further investments or partnerships beyond those mentioned have been announced.

The partnership with Ownera aims to solve the issue of creating more silos, a problem that was supposed to be addressed by blockchain technology. By providing a unified interoperability layer, Ownera enables Apex to access diverse blockchain networks and digital asset markets through a single connectivity point, streamlining processes like repo transactions, liquidity management, and collateral exchange across ecosystems without needing separate integrations for each blockchain or digital market participant.

With this partnership, Apex is set to make significant strides in the digital asset market, providing its clients with increased access and operational efficiency. As the blockchain landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Apex leverages this partnership to drive growth and innovation.
