All charges have been dropped from the tablet
In a significant development, Boris Galkin, the former CEO of Plastic Logic, is facing embezzlement charges in Russia. The Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed the charges against Galkin, who is accused of embezzling over 6 billion rubles from Rosnano, a Russian state corporation.
The alleged embezzlement occurred between December 2011 and March 2021, during the development of the "Chubais tablet," a flexible gadget intended for Russian schoolchildren. The funds, meant for the creation of this innovative device, were instead transferred to the foreign company Plastic Logic. However, the "Chubais tablet" was never put into production.
Galkin claims he was following the instructions and orders of the managing bodies of Rosnano and the board of directors of Plastic Logic regarding the transfer of funds. His lawyer, Alexander Shcherba, has stated that Galkin intends to prove his innocence in court.
Yuri Udaltsov, deputy chairman of the board of Rosnano, and Nikolai Tychinin, investment director of the investment division of Rosnano, are also accused of involvement in the embezzlement. Both individuals have left the country and are on an international wanted list in connection with the criminal case.
The investigation materials are expected to be sent to the Gagarin District Court of Moscow soon. Galkin considers himself a hostage to the situation due to law enforcement agencies' actions in the absence of responsible persons. His defense has emphasized the lack of data on his intention to abscond and his chronic gallbladder disease.
The three individuals allegedly embezzled the funds by transferring them to a group of foreign companies, including Plastic Logic. The plant for the production of the "Plastic Logic100" tablet in Zelenograd was never built. Last year, Rosnano initiated the bankruptcy of Plastic Logic.
Sergei Sergeev is the source of the information about the court materials. Galkin has no personal accounts, real estate, or means to pay off loans after his arrest, leading to bankruptcy while in detention. The criminal case against Galkin is large, but there are no testimonies or evidence of his criminal role, according to his lawyer.
