ANA & Joby Aviation Launch Japan's Air Taxi Revolution
ANA Holdings and Joby Aviation have joined forces to revolutionize Japanese air transport. The partnership aims to create vertiports, introduce pilot training programs, and provide aircraft maintenance support. The collaboration was showcased at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, with a successful public flight of Joby's air taxi.
Japan, renowned for its ground transportation advancements like the automotive industry and bullet trains, now sets its sights on leading the world in air transportation. ANA Holdings and Joby Aviation are working together to establish a national air taxi ecosystem.
The Expo 2025 flight demonstrated Joby's aircraft performing vertical takeoff, transitioning to winged flight, and vertical landing. The aircraft, displayed in ANA livery, is designed to carry a pilot and up to four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph. Joby plans to conduct over 20 flights during the next 13 days at the Expo, expected to attract up to 200,000 visitors daily.
The collaboration also involves working jointly with the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau on regulatory data, ensuring a smooth path for air taxi integration.
