Anticipated Camera Launches in 2025: An Insight into Both Official and Unofficial Debuts!

Hot Summer, Hot Camera Rumors!

Summer's here, and the tech industry's been heating up! After a chilly patch due to trade tiff turmoil, things have kicked back into high gear across the photography scene.

Some of the most exciting camera speculations have come to life, especially around Fujifilm. First, the jaw- dropper, the Fujifilm X Half, then the product of the year, the Fujifilm X-E5. But it ain't just Fuji making waves - Sony and Ricoh have delivered long-awaited gems with the Sony FX2, and the Ricoh GR IV.

Yeah, there's been more fake news than a tabloid front page - so don't swallow everything you read hook, line, and sinker!

As always, smoke usually means fire, but keep a salt shaker handy, mate, 'cause geopolitical mess is still wreaking havoc on planned releases, so dates are as slippery as an eel at the moment...

Canon Rumors 2K24

Canon is the most photographic-patenting manufacturer for 41 years running! And these patents are the first whispers about the next wave of cameras.

We've seen Canon rumors turning into real treats like dominos, from last year's Canon EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II to the long-awaited Canon EOS C400 and EOS C80, and this year welcomes the Canon PowerShot V1 and EOS R50 V.

So what can we expect from Canon in 2K25? With two new pro cameras, two new cinema cameras, a new compact camera, and a new content creation camera, it promises to be a wild ride!

Canon EOS R6 Mark III

This camera's feeling like a mythical beast. First rumored for a late 2K24 release, then a spring 2K25 debut, and now whispers point to summer-or-later for the Canon EOS R6 Mark III. But politics might be the pantomime villain, delaying the beast's arrival!

Details on this cryptid have been slim, but there are consistent rumblings that it'll inherit the 24MP stacked sensor from the EOS R3, the 5.69 million-dot viewfinder from the EOS R5, and the split CFexpress B / SD card slots of those beasts.

Cinema enthusiasts might be excited to hear rumors of the R6 Mark III getting both C-Log2 and C-Log3 - I'll confess it's hard to believe, but stranger things have happened! If it does, it could be a hybrid powerhouse that'll set pulses racing.

Canon EOS R7 Mark II

Rumors about the Canon EOS R7 Mark II all have one thing in common: they suggest a formidable force on the horizon.

Recently, there's been talk that the R7 Mark II will ditch the mechanical shutter for an electronic system. Given the speed-focus of this camera, that makes: pounds of sense - especially if it packs a stacked sensor, perhaps even Canon's triple-layer stacked sensor.

Similar to the original R7, it's been buzzed that this upgrade will boast a 40MP sensor capable of 8K video, as well as sport the larger size of the R5 Mark II for max compatibility.

If all these rumors converge like Voltron, the R7 Mark II could be a mighty marvel indeed!

Another Canon EOS RV camera (R7 V ?)

The Canon EOS R50 V, a vid-focused sibling to the original EOS R50, has launched - and rumors suggest Canon is working on more members for the "RV" family, including a new model slated for 2K25... Could we be seeing a Canon EOS R7 V this year?

Canon PowerShot V3

The PowerShot V1, Canon's vlogging-oriented compact camera, has just dropped in Asia, and there are already rumblings about the next family member.

For photographers, the PowerShot V3 seems to be the model to watch. Sources suggest it'll have the same 1.4-inch sensor as the V1, but swap the content creator zoom range for a 20x zoom which could reach up to 500mm. If it retains the V1's 30fps burst shooting, this could be a serious sales smash!

Canon RE-1

Rumors about Canon's retro EOS R camera, which I've dubbed the RE-1, have been swirling for months. The latest whispers suggest we might see it announced this year ahead of a 2026 launch – a perfect 50th anniversary tribute to the iconic Canon AE-1 film camera.

Sources suggest that the RE-1 will be based on a mid-range camera, like the EOS R6 Mark II. Instead of the RE-1 being a high-spec marvel, it seems that Canon is playing catch-up with the Nikon Zf, focusing on photographic rather than video features.

I really want to see Canon outdo the competition with some exclusive film simulation partnerships and vintage-style lenses - fingers crossed!

Canon gimbal camera

Four years back, Canon worked on a gimbal camera with an interchangeable lens mount, widely believed to be EF-M. The plans have been resurrected, and Canon's new design resembles the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 but features a fixed zoom lens.

This seems to be a small-sensor system, likely the 1-inch sensor from the PowerShot V10 or G7X Mark III. If Canon manages to get this product out in the wild, it could gain big fans!

Canon 3D VR Camera

I've been keeping tabs on Canon's 360-degree 3D VR Camera prototype. The 3D VR 8K camera captures 360-degree/180-degree footage and live streams VR content. Rumor has it that the camera might hit market for less than a grand - keep an eye on this one!

Canon Posture Fit

Stemming from 2021, Canon introduced us to the Posture Fit concept camera; a silly little thing that sits on your desk, keeping tabs on your posture using a wide-angle lens and skeletal mapping. If it spots you slouching, it lights up, wobbles, and beeps – reminding you to straighten up and take breaks.

Recent patents hint at a Posture Fit 2.0 that could monitor multiple subjects in its field of view, taking things to a new level. Although it's not a photography camera (so no spying or surveillance), it's a clever lifestyle device designed to help you stay healthy while posting up at your computer.

Canon EOS R3 Mark II

The R3 sits in a peculiar niche in Canon's lineup, now that the R1 has emerged. Some think it's a lame duck beside the R1, which outclasses it in every way. But others argue that the R3 could serve as a springboard for new technology, testing the waters before Canon fully commits.

Stay tuned for more developments! The Canon EOS R3 Mark II could be on the horizon, potentially debuting the first global shutter sensor – watch this space!
