Artificial Intelligence Video Production Quietly Debuts - Key Insights Revealed

Perplexity, the AI search engine that operates closer to Google than most of its competitors, has taken a step forward in the world of artificial intelligence. The company has introduced a new feature that allows users to generate short, cinematic videos from simple text prompts.

Jesse Dwyer, the head of communications at Perplexity, stated that this video generation feature will be used in conjunction with other tasks, such as research or visualizing ideas. Unlike chatbots like ChatGPT or Gemini, Perplexity is marketed as an AI search engine, and this new feature is no exception.

To use the video generation feature, users need to be signed into their Pro or Max account. The feature is integrated into the core experience, allowing users to move from text search or image generation to video creation seamlessly. Users can input descriptive prompts such as “A woman sits beside a glowing magical book...” and receive a corresponding video clip that can be viewed, downloaded, shared, or flagged for inappropriate content.

The video generation feature works by converting text prompts into short, 8-second videos with synchronized audio, including speech and dialogue. This advanced AI technology, likely based on Google’s Veo 3, produces vivid, realistic videos in under a minute from simple one-line descriptions.

Currently, access to this feature is exclusive to Perplexity’s Pro and Max subscribers, available on web, iOS, and Android platforms. Pro users are allotted up to 5 videos per month with standard quality, while Max subscribers receive higher resolution videos, enhanced quality, and greater monthly quotas (up to 15 videos or unlimited depending on specifics).

The video generation feature is being slowly rolled out and is already available to Pro and Max users in various regions, although an official announcement has not been made yet. Due to its early stages, the availability of the video generation feature might be limited, and it might not be available in all regions yet.

This new feature positions Perplexity not only as an AI search engine but also as a creative tool democratizing video production for marketers, storytellers, and general users. With its simple prompt-based input, no technical skill is needed to create videos, making it accessible to everyone. Additionally, content safety filters prevent misuse, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all users.
