Audi, BMW Lead Electric Station Wagon Revival
In a shift towards sustainable motoring, Audi, BMW, and nine other automakers have revealed or pre-ordered electric station wagons. This comes as SUVs dominate the market, but electric wagons offer better efficiency and space.
Electric station wagons are gaining traction, with models like the Audi A6 e-tron leading the way. Unveiled in 2024, it's based on Audi's Premium Platform Electric and offers advanced tech in a sleek hatchback design. As of August 2025, only 13 such models are available or pre-orderable.
Despite their efficiency and storage space, station wagons face declining demand, particularly outside Europe. SUVs, currently in high demand, are replacing them. However, as Europe moves towards electric vehicles, affordable options are becoming crucial. While the electric vehicle market is growing, it's predominantly filled with SUVs and sedans, not station wagons.
Electric station wagons, though few, are emerging as a sustainable alternative. With only 13 models unveiled or pre-orderable, more manufacturers are needed to cater to this niche. As Europe embraces electric vehicles, affordable options like these could become vital.
