In the world of photography, the Fujifilm GFX100 RF has been praised for its sharp design, minimalist controls, and sensor that captures life with breathtaking clarity. However, one photographer, Sebastian Oakley, has found a compromise in the camera's fixed 28mm equivalent lens.

Oakley, a member of Nikon NPS and a seasoned photographer with two decades of international publication, prefers a 50mm lens for distilling scenes, isolating, and simplifying images. He finds the 28mm equivalent on the GFX100 RF a step in the right direction, but it's not quite what he's looking for.

The 50mm lens, Oakley believes, brings balance, structure, and intimacy to images without shouting. With it, the camera would become an extension of how he sees. Unfortunately, as of now, there are no official plans or products announced specifically for a 50mm lens for the GFX100 RF.

Despite this, Oakley would carry the Fujifilm GFX100 RF everywhere, from various locations to different events. He finds the camera's styling minimal, robust, and beautifully balanced, making it a pleasure to handle. The camera's ergonomics are intuitive and responsive, with controls that are well-balanced.

Fujifilm chose the 28mm equivalent lens for the GFX100 RF for its immersive, discrete qualities and popularity among photographers. The 28mm lens offers a wide field of view, perfect for capturing landscapes and interiors. However, for Oakley, a 50mm lens would be ideal for his style of photography.

Medium format delivers a tonal richness and dimensionality that APS-C and full-frame can't match. The Fujifilm GFX100 RF, as a medium format rangefinder-style camera, certainly lives up to this promise. Yet, for Oakley, it's the 50mm lens that could make it truly exceptional.

While there are currently no specific announcements or plans from Fujifilm regarding a dedicated 50mm lens for the GFX100 RF camera, users might need to consider alternative solutions, such as using adapters or third-party conversion lenses, if available in the future.

For Oakley, the Fujifilm GFX100 RF remains a camera he admires and may shoot with from time to time. However, unless they make a 50mm version, it'll remain the one that got away. Camera design, after all, is a game of compromises, and Fujifilm had to draw a line somewhere. Yet, for Oakley, it's so close, and yet, not quite.

  1. Sebastian Oakley, preferring a 50mm lens for his distinctive photography style, finds the 28mm equivalent on the Fujifilm GFX100 RF a step in the right direction, but not quite what he's looking for.
  2. Despite the current absence of official plans for a 50mm lens for the GFX100 RF, users might consider alternative solutions like adapters or third-party conversion lenses if they become available in the future.
  3. The Fujifilm GFX100 RF, with its exceptional sensor and sharp design, is admired by Oakley, but he regrets that its lack of a 50mm lens leaves a gap in his potential creative output.
  4. Given the 50mm lens's ability to bring balance, structure, and intimacy to images, Oakley believes it would make the GFX100 RF an even more powerful tool for his photography.
  5. Despite the camera's wonderful features, the absence of a dedicated 50mm lens leaves Oakley feeling that the Fujifilm GFX100 RF, despite being an exceptional camera in many ways, is almost but not quite perfect for him.
