Bavarian Police Launch WhatsApp Channel for Citizen Updates
One year ago, the city of Dormagen became the first in Germany to launch a WhatsApp channel for sharing vital and current news. Now, North Bavaria Police Headquarters has followed suit, creating its own channel to reach citizens in the digital world.
The police use the WhatsApp channel to disseminate news such as traffic updates, safety tips, missing person alerts, and wanted person notifications. Citizens from Augsburg city and the districts of Augsburg, Aichach-Friedberg, Dillingen, and Donau-Ries can access the service.
Subscribers can activate push notifications for new posts. While they can't directly answer, comment, or send messages, they can react with emojis. The WhatsApp channel can be accessed via the link www.whatsapp.com/polizeiSWN or a QR code.
WhatsApp, with millions of users in Germany, is a popular choice for authorities to reach citizens. The police continue to operate social media channels on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, with over 65,000 subscribers. The new WhatsApp channel complements these existing platforms, providing another avenue for important and up-to-date news.
