Behind the Scenes at Boris FX: Moritz Fortmann in His Role as SynthEyes Product Manager
In the heart of Valencia, Spain, Moritz Fortmann, a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in the 3D camera-solving tools industry, now serves as the first-ever SynthEyes product manager.
Fortmann's journey began in a small town in southwest Germany, where he nurtured a passion for technology and art that would eventually lead him to the international stage. His first professional foray was an internship with Quantel in England, a pivotal moment that set the stage for his illustrious career.
Today, Fortmann works alongside SynthEyes creator Dr. Russ Andersson, a collaboration that has seen him make significant contributions to the SynthEyes product. His role involves listening to the user community, identifying new 3D camera-solving tools, and helping to improve the overall SynthEyes experience.
Fortmann's advice to his younger self is to not follow any specific rules or paths, but to carve out his own way. This philosophy is evident in his diverse career, which includes stints as a colorist and product manager/specialist for Boris FX partners Foundry and Blackmagic.
One of Fortmann's favourite tools within the Boris FX Suite is the Continuum suite of products. He also finds immense value in the export feature from SynthEyes to After Effects, a feature that streamlines the workflow for many artists in the industry.
When he's not immersed in the world of 3D camera-solving tools, Fortmann enjoys a variety of activities. He is an avid outdoorsman, a music enthusiast, and a cyclist. His love for the arts is also evident in his appreciation for diverse storytelling, with a particular fondness for Scandinavian noir, Brazilian shows, Mexican, and Korean movies.
In his spare time, Fortmann also indulges in his creative pursuits, often making music and exploring photography. His favourite snacks when he needs a quick boost during the day include trail mix, apple and peanut butter, and coffee.
Looking ahead, Fortmann expresses a desire to collaborate with Ai Weiwei, appreciating the Chinese artist's combination of art and activism. As he continues to shape the future of SynthEyes, Fortmann remains dedicated to fostering a creative and inclusive environment where artists can thrive.
Technology plays a crucial role in Fortmann's career, as he has spent over two decades working with 3D camera-solving tools like SynthEyes. His current position as a product manager for SynthEyes allows him to listen to the user community, identify new tools, and help improve the overall SynthEyes experience, demonstrating technology's impact on enhancing industrial innovations.
