Bexley Borough Council & ubitricity Team Up for 100 On-Street EV Charging Stations

Bexley Borough Council has partnered with ubitricity, a leading European charging station operator, to install 100 on-street Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points. The collaboration, initiated in 2018, aims to expand public charging infrastructure and encourage residents to adopt EVs.

ubitricity, a subsidiary of Shell Group, operates in multiple European countries, including the UK where it leads with over 7,000 public charge points. The company offers various charging solutions, including lamppost and bollard charge points, which Bexley Council has chosen for their project.

Councillor Richard Diment, Cabinet Member for Places, highlighted the environmental benefits of using existing lampposts. He noted that this approach reduces installation time and keeps streets clutter-free. The charge points, with a capacity of 5kW, will be hosted in lampposts and bollards, taking as little as two hours to install. The council's goal is to minimise clutter and expedite the project by utilising existing infrastructure.

At least two charging points will be deployed per Ward across Bexley, allowing for widespread access to charging facilities. Toby Butler, UK Managing Director of Ubitricity, expressed enthusiasm about supporting Bexley residents in making the switch to EVs.

Bexley Borough Council and ubitricity are working together to install 100 on-street EV charge points, utilising existing infrastructure to keep streets green and minimise clutter. This project aims to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles for Bexley residents.
