Bitkom and Center for Data Innovation Respond to EU's Data Economy Questionnaire

Bitkom e.V., a German digital association, and the Center for Data Innovation have both submitted responses to the European Commission's online questionnaire on the 'Building the European Data Economy' package. Their inputs focus on key aspects such as data storage, access regulations, and liabilities in the evolving data landscape.

Bitkom e.V., representing the German digital industry, has shared its views on the European Commission's data economy initiative. The association stressed the importance of data storage location, advocating for flexible rules that allow data to flow freely within the EU while ensuring data sovereignty.

It also addressed the regulation of access and reuse of non-personal machine data, suggesting a balanced approach that encourages innovation while protecting intellectual property. Furthermore, Bitkom e.V. discussed liability in the context of new technologies like connected devices in the Internet of Things, proposing a risk-based approach that holds manufacturers accountable for preventable harm.
