BMW will unveil its new electric SUV, the iX3, in New York City on Sunday for its North American premiere.
BMW Unveils First Neue Klasse Model: The iX3
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, Dr. Joachim Post, BMW Group Member of the Board of Management, Development, unveiled the first series-production Neue Klasse model – the BMW iX3 – at Bathhouse Studios in New York City. This electric SUV sets new industry standards for user experience, digitalization, driving dynamics, and circularity.
The BMW iX3 is equipped with a new electronics and software architecture that houses four "superbrain" high-performance computers. This advanced system powers the "Heart of Joy" drivetrain and driving dynamics management technology, bringing the hallmark characteristics of the "Ultimate Driving Machine" to the Neue Klasse.
The BMW iX3's design emphasizes all four wheels and has the hallmark proportions of a BMW SUV with the authoritative presence of a BMW X model. The new BMW iX3 also introduces a reduced surface treatment, adding a modern and sleek touch to the vehicle's exterior.
In terms of sustainability, the BMW iX3 uses 30% of recycled maritime plastic for the engine compartment cover and the storage compartment under the front hatch. Additionally, the new BMW iX3 will be fitted as standard with an NACS (North American Charging Standard) compatible charging port, ensuring convenience for its North American customers.
For the first time, the BMW Group will showcase the Natural Fiber Roof, a vehicle roof developed in collaboration with Swiss clean tech company Bcomp. This innovative roof material is made from natural fibers, contributing to the iX3's eco-friendly credentials.
The BMW iX3's interior features the M Visionary Materials Seat Evo, demonstrating how circular design principles with recyclable mono-materials and secondary raw materials can be applied to interior components. The Bumper, another example of Future Sustainable Car Materials, explores how used car bumpers can be collected, processed, and partly reshaped into new components, enhancing material circularity in the automotive industry.
The new BMW iX3 also introduces the BMW Panoramic iDrive user interface, which redefines the user experience by balancing digital functions and physical elements. The BMW iX3 also boasts a first-of-its-kind BMW Panoramic Vision display, projecting relevant information across the entire base of the windscreen.
With a peak charging rate of 400 kW and an estimated range of up to 400 miles (according to preliminary BMW AG tests based on the EPA's test procedure standards), the BMW iX3 is poised to lead the way in electric vehicle technology. The new BMW iX3 not only represents a significant step forward for the BMW Group but also for the automotive industry as a whole.
The new BMW iX3 launches a new BMW design language that will expand across the whole of BMW's range, signifying a promising future for sustainable, technologically advanced vehicles from the renowned German manufacturer.
