Broadcom's Co-Packaged Optics Hits 1M Hours at Meta Without Link Flaps
Broadcom Inc., a global tech leader, has reached a significant milestone in its Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) solutions. After one million cumulative 400G equivalent port device hours of operation at Meta, the company's CPO solutions have demonstrated flawless performance with no link flaps.
Broadcom's Optical Systems Division vice president, Near Margalit, hailed this achievement as a testament to the company's commitment to quality and innovation. Meta, a major tech company, internally tested Broadcom's CPO technology and found it significantly improved bandwidth and power efficiency for data center interconnects compared to traditional optical-electrical-optical solutions. The CPO platform includes advanced thermal management, proven optical engine packaging, robust firmware, and end-to-end validation across electrical, optical, and mechanical domains.
Broadcom continues to work with industry partners to drive CPO adoption and ensure interoperability. CPO offers a sustainable path forward for hyperscale data centers, addressing power constraints and physical limitations of traditional pluggable optics. It reduces optics power by 65 percent compared to pluggable module solutions and shows higher link reliability.
Broadcom's CPO solutions have operated for one million link hours without a single link flap at Meta, demonstrating their reliability and efficiency.
