Adore Me Launches Sustainability Accelerator, Embraces Wholesale Channels

Lingerie brand Adore Me has taken a significant step towards sustainability with the launch of its Sustainability Accelerator. The program, first initiated four years ago in Paris, aims to foster innovation in sustainability tech across various stages of the development process.

The accelerator's 2023 cohort includes four startups: Ever Dye, Carbonfact, Commonshare, and Pendulum. These startups have been working with Adore Me over the last year and a half, addressing various segments of the manufacturing process.

One of the startups, CarbonFact, has developed a data platform for designers to incorporate carbon impact into the design process. Adore Me has already seen the benefits of this technology, reducing its overall emissions for its upcoming January 2024 collection by 12%.

Ever Dye, another startup in the cohort, has focused on developing a low-heat and low-energy dyeing process. This innovation could potentially lead to substantial energy savings and a reduced carbon footprint in Adore Me's production process.

Despite historically focusing on direct-to-consumer channels, Adore Me has explored wholesale this year through its exclusive Walmart line, Adored by Adore Me, developed in partnership with Gelmart.

Morgan Hermand, founder and CEO of Adore Me, expressed pride in being the "ideal first big customer" for startups in the cohort. The company's commitment to sustainability is evident in its efforts to personalize the shopper experience, a trend driven by the host of new opportunities opened up by readily available consumer data.

Retailers are tapping into shopper data to personalize the shopper experience due to the increased availability of consumer data. Adore Me's accelerator program includes a six to 12-month "onboarding, testing, and integration period" with each startup before the technology is deployed formally.

However, the direct impact of Adore Me's sustainability accelerator on the company's sustainability efforts and emissions reduction is not explicitly detailed in the available information. Further insights from Adore Me's sustainability initiatives would be needed to evaluate how such a program has influenced their environmental impact.

In a notable move, Adore Me was acquired by Victoria's Secret in January in a $400 million deal. This acquisition could potentially open up new opportunities for the brand to further its sustainability initiatives.
