The Yangwang U9, a Chinese electric supercar, is set to take the automotive world by storm with its significantly upgraded powertrain. With a total combined power output of approximately 3,019 horsepower (2,200 kW), the new model is poised to join the ranks of the most powerful production electric supercars globally.

Power Boost with Four Motors

The new Yangwang U9 is equipped with a four-motor architecture, each motor producing a staggering 555 kW (744 hp). This is a 2.3-fold increase in motor power per unit compared to the current model, which delivers 240 kW per motor. This power upgrade nearly doubles or more than doubles the power output of the current model.

High-Speed Motor Technology

The new motors in the Yangwang U9 leverage BYD's high-speed motor technology, capable of high RPMs (up to 30,511 rpm from related BYD motors). This technology allows the new U9 to reach a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph), despite maintaining similar dimensions and a curb weight of about 2,480 kg.

Hypercar Territory

The new U9's high power output places it in hypercar territory, exceeding the power ratings of notable electric hypercars like the Lotus Evija (1,972 hp) and Rimac Nevera (1,914 hp).

The Current Yangwang U9

For context, the current Yangwang U9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds. It is currently priced at RMB 1.68 million in China.

BYD's Expansion Plans

BYD also plans to launch its high-end Yangwang brand in Europe, marking a significant step in its global expansion. The new version of the Yangwang U9 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by BYD's battery subsidiary FinDreams Battery.
