BYD introduces the Seagull compact hatchback model in El Salvador
BYD Launches Dolphin Mini in El Salvador
Chinese automaker BYD has entered the passenger vehicle market in El Salvador with the launch of the Dolphin Mini, a compact electric hatchback. The vehicle, previously known as the Seagull, was rebranded to better suit local preferences or marketing positioning.
The Dolphin Mini was unveiled in a joint launch with BYD's partner Energy Motors in Central America. The starting price for the Dolphin Mini in El Salvador is $22,400.
In addition to the Dolphin Mini, BYD offers five other passenger vehicle models in El Salvador: the Seal, Yuan Pro, Song Plus, Song Pro, and Shark. These six models represent BYD's current passenger EV lineup in the country, following its market entry in January 2025.
The Seagull, now the Dolphin Mini, offers a range of up to 380 kilometers. The vehicle's rebranding is part of BYD's broader international approach, as the same model is also rebranded in other regions.
Elsewhere, BYD's sales of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in July dropped to last year's level. However, the Seagull (now Dolphin Mini) does not appear to be affected by the decline in PHEV sales, which continues to impact BYD's NEV sales.
The launch of the Dolphin Mini in El Salvador marks BYD's latest expansion into the global market. The company, which trades on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the ticker 1211 and over-the-counter under BYDDY, is committed to promoting sustainable transportation solutions worldwide.
As of August 2025, this article presents the most up-to-date information about BYD's offerings in the El Salvadoran passenger vehicle market. Further sales data for the Seagull (now Dolphin Mini) and other models may become available in the future.
