Calvin Nelson's Ford Fairmont Wagon Sets New Record with 8-Second Quarter Mile

YouTuber Calvin Nelson, known as Nivlac57, has set a new record with his modified Ford Fairmont wagon. The vehicle, equipped with a Vortec 3500 engine, ran an impressive eight-second quarter-mile at 153.64 mph.

Nelson, known for building powerful Atlas engines, left the stock aluminum block and factory camshafts untouched in this project. Instead, he had MW Steel create a custom intake plenum and Snyder Performance port the head. The result? An engine that produces over 720 hp at the wheels.

The Fairmont wagon initially ran 8s with a six-cylinder engine, but Nelson wanted to push the limits with an inline-five. He chose the Vortec 3500, a five-cylinder engine once sold in the first-gen Chevy Colorado. The engine's power comes from a 75/88mm turbo and a massive intercooler, making it a formidable force in the Atlas engine family.

Despite the engine's impressive power, Nelson acknowledges that the current chassis and suspension struggle to handle it smoothly. He plans to tweak the four-link rear suspension to better manage the power.
