Carbon wheelsets manufactured by DT Swiss are being withdrawn due to potential risks of the wheel rim collapsing completely.
DT Swiss, a leading manufacturer of bicycle components, has issued a product recall on selected carbon wheelsets from the ERC, CRC, and HEC series, as well as the ARC series with specific rim heights. The recall is a response to identified issues in the manufacturing process of the affected wheelsets.
The recall affects bicycle wheels delivered from August 1, 2024, onwards and includes the following rim series: ARC 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT 50 / 55 / 65, ARC 1600 SPLINE 50 / 55 / 65, ERC 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT 35 / 45, ERC 1600 SPLINE 35 / 45, ERC LOG CLASSIC 45, CRC 1100 DICUT 45, CRC 1400, 1600 SPLINE 35 / 45, and HEC 1400 SPLINE 45.
The issue affecting the recalled wheels is "spontaneous delamination" in the rim flange area, which compromises structural integrity and can lead to total rim failure. The rim bed itself is not affected but may be damaged secondary to the delamination.
The affected wheels have a DT Swiss ID number of 2740000 or higher and were produced in a third-party factory in Vietnam. It's important to note that this recall does not affect ARC wheels with rim heights of 38, 62, 80, and 85 mm, or any rims made in DT Swiss's own facility in Poland.
If the ID number is no longer visible, customers can email DT Swiss with the rim series number found under the rim tape for a manual search to see if their wheels are affected. The email address for inquiries is: [email protected].
DT Swiss urges riders to immediately stop using any affected wheelsets due to safety risks. The recall follows DT Swiss's Stop-Use Notice released on July 12, 2025.
The recall affects the bicycle wheels only and does not extend to any other products produced by DT Swiss. This recall is due to manufacturing concerns similar to those previously identified in the ERC/CRC/HEC models. In-depth quality checks have revealed manufacturing concerns in the ARC series produced at the Vietnamese facility.
No product defects have been reported for the ARC series manufactured at the Vietnamese facility. The ID number is attached to the product with a tamper-proof sticker, in the form of a QR- or Dot-code, and as a 7-digit identification number. The ID number can be found in three positions on the rim.
Customers are advised to check their wheelsets and follow the instructions provided by DT Swiss to ensure their safety. The recall affects wheels delivered from August 1, 2024, onwards.
- Despite the ongoing product recall on specific carbon wheelsets from DT Swiss, such as the ERC, CRC, HEC, and ARC series, the issue does not extend to e-bikes, as the recall is limited to bicycle wheels specifically.
- With the concern of spontaneous delamination in the rim flange area of certain DT Swiss wheelsets, technology advances in sports equipment, including e-bike technology, continue to progress independently of this manufacturing issue.
