Celebrating digital inclusion narratives, one barangay at a time, as per the GMEA@12
The 12th edition of the Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA@12) is set to recognise and celebrate journalism and storytelling that highlight the power of technology in empowering micro-communities across the Philippines. Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe, stated that the awards honour storytellers who embody purpose in action, lead with integrity, elevate truth in an evolving media landscape, and help shape a future where no one is left behind.
The theme for GMEA@12, "Digitally Forward: One Barangay at a Time," emphasises the importance of bringing technology closer to grassroots or micro-communities (barangays) to enable families, foster business growth, and strengthen community participation in nation-building through improved access and opportunities. This focus aligns with the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) agenda on digital inclusion by promoting narratives that reflect the digital transformation happening at the local level.
GMEA@12 serves as a platform to recognise and encourage journalism that reinforces DICT’s mission by spotlighting digital inclusion as a key driver for socio-economic development, especially within small communities. The awards honour stories that create impact through truthful, purposeful storytelling that amplifies stories of access to technology as a tool for progress and empowerment at the grassroots level.
The Integrated Media category includes awards for Online News Report of the Year, Photo of the Year, Radio News Report of the Year, and TV News Report of the Year. The Digital Storytelling category includes awards for Best Blog Post and Best Social Media Video. Media practitioners and content creators from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao can submit work published or aired between September 2024 and August 2025.
Entries for the awards will be judged based on content, storytelling style, impact, and integration. Special Awards will be given exclusively to First Place winners in various categories. The submission of entries for Newsmaker of the Year, Editor of the Year, and Globe of Good Story of the Year (formerly known as Kwentong Tagumpay Community) is part of GMEA@12.
The submission period for GMEA@12 runs from July 21 to August 31, 2025. The submission portal for GMEA@12 will go live on July 30, 2025, on the website http://globe.com.ph.
