Chery's Jaecoo J5 EV Lands in Australia Q1 2026
Chinese automaker Chery has introduced its second electric vehicle, the Jaecoo J5 EV, to the Australian market. The stylish SUV, reminiscent of Land Rover, is set to launch in the first quarter of 2026, with more details and pricing to follow.
The Jaecoo J5 EV is a compact yet capable electric SUV. It measures 4.4 metres in length and comes equipped with 18-inch wheels. Under the hood, it boasts a 155 kW front-mounted motor, the more powerful of the two options available globally. This motor enables the J5 EV to tow up to 750 kg when braked, with a running clearance of 180 mm.
The J5 EV is expected to come with a 60.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering an impressive range of 400 km on the WLTP cycle. Despite its robust features, the Jaecoo J5 EV has a tare weight of just 1,710 kg, making it one of the lighter electric SUVs in its class.
The Jaecoo J5 EV, the first model from the Jaecoo brand launched locally in May 2025, is poised to make a mark in the Australian EV market. With its appealing styling, robust performance, and competitive range, the J5 EV is set to provide stiff competition to other electric SUVs when it launches in Q1 2026.
