Chevy Announces Integration of BrightDrop Electric Vans into Chevrolet Brand

General Motors (GM) has announced that its electric commercial van brand, BrightDrop, will now be part of the Chevrolet brand. This move is aimed at making it more convenient for commercial customers to access BrightDrop vans and services.

The decision comes after GM's initial plan to operate BrightDrop independently as a wholly owned subsidiary. However, the integration of BrightDrop into Chevrolet will combine advanced EV technology with the dependability and widespread accessibility that only Chevrolet can offer.

BrightDrop currently offers two electric vans, the Zevo 400 and the Zevo 600, which offer additional cargo volume. These vans are built on GM's Ultium EV platform and have an estimated combined city and highway driving range of 272 miles. They are manufactured at GM's CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.

Sandor Piszar, vice president of GM Envolve, stated that the integration of BrightDrop into the Chevrolet portfolio will expand its reach and accessibility. Kristian Aquilina, GM Canada President, added that this branding evolution is a testament to the potential GM and Chevrolet see for BrightDrop in the electric fleet market.

This move strengthens Chevrolet's EV offerings and reaffirms its role as a leading commercial brand. Participating Chevrolet dealers will now have the opportunity to maintain and service BrightDrop EVs, creating an opportunity for additional revenue. All Chevrolet dealers will have the opportunity to sell BrightDrop vans, provided they meet GM's commercial EV requirements and become certified.

Envolve's digital offerings will also be brought to BrightDrop customers as a result of this integration. Duncan Aldred, the chairman of GM Envolve, which is involved in the BrightDrop brand transition, noted that this move is similar to Ford Motor Co.'s new business unit, Ford Pro.

BrightDrop customers include FedEx, Ryder, and DHL. This move is expected to further solidify Chevrolet's position in the commercial EV market and its commitment to helping companies decarbonize their fleet operations.

In November 2023, GM announced that BrightDrop would become part of its commercial products and services unit Envolve. Envolve serves thousands of commercial and government customers, according to GM. This integration marks a significant step in GM's efforts to lead the way in electric and autonomous mobility solutions.
