Chinese pioneers creating a stir at Expand North Star 2024 exhibition, poised to illuminate Dubai scene
In a series of exciting events from May 13 to 17, the Expand North Star (ENS) 2024 roadshows took place in Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. Organised by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, these roadshows aimed to connect the brightest minds in China with emerging opportunities in the UAE and beyond.
Phenomenon Array (also known as Novnet), an edge computing company, performed exceptionally at the Beijing roadshow, securing opportunities to attend events in Berlin. Inspro Science, an insect protein company, also won top prizes at the Shenzhen roadshow, earning participation in GITEX Europe 2025.
Several Chinese companies that participated in the roadshows will attend the flagship edition of ENS 2024 in Dubai this October, with all expenses covered. Among them are RoboCT, an exoskeleton robot developer, and Biorocks Biotechnology, an assisted reproductive and automation equipment provider, both of whom won top prizes at the Shenzhen roadshow.
Top Bio-technology (TopBio), a glucose monitoring company, and FlashDx, a molecular diagnostics company, also shone at the Beijing and Shanghai roadshows, respectively. FlashDx secured a spot at GITEX Europe 2025 in Berlin and the semifinals of the Supernova Challenge, while TopBio earned opportunities to attend events in Dubai.
Miqro Era, a quantum computing company, established critical contacts within the Dubai Chamber during the Shanghai roadshow, paving the way for its market entry into the Middle East. These achievements underscore the UAE's reputation as a global innovation hub, its friendly business environment, and close economic ties with China, making it a vital gateway for startups aiming for global expansion.
The UAE and China's relationship has been strengthening over the past few years, as highlighted by Richard Soundardjee, CEO for UAE and Egypt at China International Capital Corporation (CICC), during the Dubai Business Forum in November 2023. He emphasized the benefits of this growing relationship.
As the UAE becomes a platform for international expansion for many Asian clients, Chinese companies showcased their brands, technology, and solutions to a worldwide audience during the roadshows. These events not only provided opportunities for Chinese startups but also strengthened the UAE's position as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
GITEX Europe will take place in Berlin next year, inviting various Chinese startups to participate. With the success of the ENS 2024 roadshows, it is expected that more Chinese companies will seize these opportunities to expand their reach and make their mark in the global market.
