City Council Unveils Ambitious Cycling Plan: New Routes, Safer Crossings

The city council has unveiled ambitious plans to promote cycling and reduce car distances. Key to this is the development of the east-west bicycle axis, which includes several new measures to enhance cycling routes and safety.

One of the most significant changes is the addition of a central island for crossing Berliner Platz, making it safer for cyclists to navigate this busy area. Furthermore, Roonstraße will become a bicycle street, prioritising cyclists and improving connectivity. A signalized crossing of Frankfurter Straße at Alienstraße has also been implemented, ensuring cyclists' safety at this intersection.

The one-way section of Alienstraße between Bahnhofstraße and Frankfurter Straße has been opened to bicycle traffic, allowing cyclists to pass through more efficiently. Additionally, the adjacent section of Löberstraße from Bismarckstraße to Goethestraße has been incorporated into the bicycle route, providing a continuous path for cyclists.

To accommodate these changes, parking spaces on Goethestraße will be moved to the other side of the street, improving visibility and safety. Resident parking spaces gained from adapting escape routes in Löberstraße will be set up in Lonystraße. These changes aim to create a more cycling-friendly city, reducing car distances and promoting sustainable transportation.
