Collaboration of Ather Energy with DPIIT to intensify electric vehicle production and enhance the clean transportation environment
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Ather Energy have entered into a comprehensive partnership under the Build in Bharat initiative. This collaboration, facilitated by the Startup Policy Forum (SPF), a coalition of over 50 innovation-focused startups, aims to accelerate India's clean mobility and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July 2025 outlines strategic mentorship for deep-tech startups, co-hosted talent and skill development initiatives, joint innovation programs such as the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge, and participation in key startup events like Startup Mahakumbh.
The partnership seeks to catalyze investment, expand domestic manufacturing capacity, enhance skill development, and generate employment in the electric vehicle (EV) sector and related technologies. It also aims to support hardware and deep-tech startups with mentorship and infrastructure.
Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Sanjiv Singh, stated that the electric mobility sector in India is entering a transformative phase. Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, expressed his happiness about collaborating with DPIIT to strengthen support systems for hardware and deep-tech startups.
The collaboration will focus on launching joint programs to foster innovation and commercialization in the EV and advanced manufacturing sectors. It will also coordinate skill development and employment generation aligned with emerging industry needs. Furthermore, it will facilitate networking and learning opportunities through events and exposure visits.
This initiative reflects a broad commitment by DPIIT and Ather Energy to align innovation with industrial policy and bridge gaps between policymakers, startups, and investors. It is expected to create a more enabling environment for manufacturing-oriented startups and support India’s transition towards sustainable transport and a resilient, innovation-driven industrial ecosystem by 2047.
The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued a statement about the MoU, expressing its belief that this partnership will significantly contribute to the growth of India's clean mobility and advanced manufacturing sectors and create a more supportive environment for manufacturing-oriented startups.
