BYD Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition: A Luxurious Full-Size Electric SUV

The BYD Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition, a high-end luxury full-size electric SUV, is set to make its debut in the Chinese market on July 31, 2025. The vehicle will be launched through a special event broadcast live at 2:30 PM Beijing time [1][2].

Measuring 5,400 mm in length, 2,049 mm in width, and 1,921 mm in height, the U8L is larger than the standard U8 and notable luxury SUVs like the Range Rover SV and the Maybach GLS 600 in terms of interior space [3][4]. It boasts a distinctive 24-karat gold emblem, a symbol of its exclusivity and artistic refinement [2][3].

The U8L's performance is impressive, with a powerful four-motor powertrain producing 880 kW (1,180 hp), positioning it as a strong rival to premium large SUVs like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan [4]. It features a wheelbase of 3,250 mm, offering ample space for its 2+2+2 seating configuration [4].

The U8L Dingshi Edition will start at approximately ¥1.3 million (about $182,000 USD), marking a premium step up from the original U8 which starts near $153,000 USD [2][3][4]. A deposit of ¥20,000 ($2,800) is required to secure pre-orders [3].

While the U8L is set to make its mark in the Chinese market, details about its release outside China are yet to be confirmed [1][2]. Given its positioning and pricing, international expansion could follow after the initial China sales phase, but official announcements have not been made.

The U8L is not the only offering from the BYD's ultra-luxury sub-brand, Yangwang. The brand also includes the U9 electric supercar and the U7 sedan [5]. The first Yangwang model, the U8, was launched on September 20, 2023, with a starting price of RMB 1,098,000 ($153,200) [6].

The U8L debuted at the 2025 Shanghai auto show on April 23 [7]. Pre-sales for the U8L Dingshi Edition will begin on July 31, making it an exciting addition to the luxury electric vehicle market.
