Computer-based promotion tests administered by FCTA for 915 assistant and deputy director positions

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Service Commission is currently conducting a computer-based promotion examination for 915 Assistant and Deputy Directors. This historic move, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.

A total of 3,516 students are sitting for the science and technical schools examination, which is being conducted in phases. The computer-based examination aims to ensure that those promoted can handle technology-driven challenges.

The FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, who created the commission with the approval of President Bola Tinubu, has promised to resolve the backlog of promotions that has been pending for many years. The Minister's promise was fulfilled in August 2023 when he came on board, clearing the backlog of promotions that had been pending since 2019, up to the level of deputy directors.

The directors being examined are drawn from various departments and agencies, including the Universal Basic Education Board, Secondary Education Board, Education Secretariat, and others. The examination is a significant step towards modernising the civil service and encouraging workers to update their digital skills.

The NDC Commandant urged graduating participants to lead with integrity and discipline. Mr Martins Azubuike, the representative of South-East in the commission, stated that participants who fail to scale through the examination will not be promoted. Azubuike also mentioned that the computer-based tests have come to stay in the system.

The verification exercise to determine the workforce strength of the FCT has begun but is yet to be completed. During the verification exercise, the commission uncovered too many age falsification in the service records, and those involved have been retired.

Meanwhile, the Foundation recently launched the cloth-a-child project in the FCT, aimed at providing clothing for underprivileged children. On the other hand, Arewa group stated that Nigeria needs courageous leaders for a better, sustainable future.

The results of the examination are expected to be out by the next week. The FCT Civil Service Commission's computer-based promotion examinations mark a significant milestone in Nigeria's civil service modernisation efforts.
