Customs Assistant Comptroller-General Suggests Adoption of Digital Technology and Strict Discipline Among Staff in Nigeria
The Edo/Delta Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is currently undergoing a significant digital transformation, with a focus on enhancing customs operations and facilitating trade. This shift towards modernisation was evident during an official tour by Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Sambo Dangaladima, the Zonal Coordinator for Zone C of the NCS, on July 30, 2025.
ACG Dangaladima, who gave the directive on this day, urged officers in the Command to prioritise discipline and embrace digital solutions in their workflows. He emphasised the importance of ongoing training for modern customs operations and the necessity of a digital approach for facilitating trade.
During the tour, Comptroller Judith Kanu reported that the Edo/Delta Command has successfully deployed the Unified Customs Management System and a localised platform called B'odogwu. These digital tools are part of the broader Trade Modernisation Project, aimed at automating declarations, streamlining processes, and enhancing stakeholder engagement.
The Command has seen impressive results from this digital approach. So far this year, the Edo/Delta Command has generated ₦57.26 billion in revenue, with ₦30.89 billion collected between April and June 2025. ACG Dangaladima assured the command that the service would work to address logistical and manpower shortages.
However, the digital transformation does not stop at the deployment of these tools. ACG Dangaladima encouraged officers to remain disciplined, follow established procedures, and keep building their skills. He emphasised the importance of ongoing training to ensure the Command continues to operate efficiently and effectively.
The digital approach implemented by the Edo/Delta Command aligns with the Nigeria Customs Service’s nationwide modernization agenda. This digital shift is essential for modern customs operations, as Dangaladima highlighted during his tour. The Command is encouraged to continue this digital journey, ensuring a seamless and efficient trade environment in the region.
Technology plays a crucial role in the digital transformation of the Edo/Delta Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), as evidenced by the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System and the localised platform called B'odogwu. These tools contribute to automating declarations, streamlining processes, and enhancing stakeholder engagement, facilitating trade. ACG Dangaladima, the Zonal Coordinator, reinforces the importance of ongoing training and a digital approach to ensure continued efficiency and effectiveness in customs operations.
