Cyberattack on Miljödata Disrupts 200+ Swedish Municipalities
Swedish IT company Miljödata has been affected by a cyberattack, disrupting services in over 200 municipalities. The attack, detected on Saturday, August 23, has raised concerns about stolen sensitive data. The Swedish government, along with relevant authorities, is managing the incident and supporting affected parties.
Miljödata, serving 80% of Swedish municipalities, experienced a cyberattack over the weekend. The affected systems are used by managers and HR to handle medical certificates, rehabilitation matters, and work-related injury management. The company has reported the incident to local authorities and is investigating with external experts to restore system functionality.
The Swedish Public Prosecutor's Office, led by Prosecutor Sandra Helgadottir, is investigating the cyber effect. Around 70 reports of cyber incidents have been received by the Swedish Privacy Agency, sparking concerns of stolen sensitive data. While no ransomware group has publicly claimed responsibility, Swedish police have revealed an extortion attempt with a demand of 1.5 bitcoins.
