Cyprus Holds Stimulating Technology Exchange Gathering

On July 30, 2025, Cyprus Seeds, in collaboration with Diginn, hosted a dynamic Technology Transfer event at the Stelios Ioannou Learning Resource Center, University of Cyprus Library. The event aimed to strengthen Cyprus' innovation ecosystem by enhancing technology transfer between academia and industry.

The evening's opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Konstantinos Kleovoulou, Director of Research and Innovation, Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, and Ms. Maria Markidou Georgiadou, Founder & Managing Director of Cyprus Seeds. The event marked another step forward in Cyprus Seeds' mission to cultivate a thriving innovation ecosystem in Cyprus.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. John Cosmopoulos, Senior Associate Director of the Technology Transfer Office at Tufts University (USA). His talk focused on international best practices on the journey "From Lab to Intellectual Property to Product," including commercialization pathways, the role of Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs), and real-world case studies from the biotech and medtech sectors.

Ms. Sophia Tsakiri, a lawyer holding an MBA with Technology Transfer expertise, also co-founder of RENVIS and Chair of the Scientific Board of Tech Transfer and Intellectual Property in Greece, presented on "From University to Market: The Role of Technology Transfer." Her presentation explored the mechanisms, services, and strategic importance of TTOs in bridging the gap between research and market needs.

The event brought together over 60 participants from academia, research institutions, and the startup ecosystem. It featured interactive Q&A sessions and provided valuable networking opportunities for researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovation stakeholders.

Cyprus Seeds extended its thanks to the distinguished speakers and all attendees for their participation. The event underscored technology transfer's role in real-world impact, as evidenced by Cyprus Seeds' success in facilitating the creation of six spinoff companies in IoT, health, energy, and art sectors.
