Danang Approves $1.7B Lien Chieu Container Port Project
A major development is underway in Danang, Vietnam. The city's People's Committee has approved a proposal from a consortium, including Posco Daewoo Corporation, to build the Lien Chieu port. The project, with an estimated investment of VND45,000 billion ($1.7 billion), will transform the region's logistics landscape.
The Lien Chieu port, when completed, will span over 172 hectares, featuring eight container berths with a total quay length of 2,750 meters. These berths can accommodate vessels up to 18,000 TEUs, significantly boosting the region's cargo handling capacity. The port is designed to handle approximately 5.7 million TEUs per year, equivalent to around 74 million tons annually.
The project, set to be implemented in three phases, is scheduled to complete the first phase by Q4/2028. Apart from the container berths, the port will also include supporting infrastructure such as operations offices, service buildings, repair workshops, and technical facilities. Directly behind the quay, a system of warehouses and container yards will be constructed, catering to full, empty, refrigerated, and special containers.
The consortium behind this project includes notable investors like Hateco Group JSC, Hateco Seaport Co., Ltd., and APM Terminals B.V. from the Netherlands. They submitted their proposal in May 2025, marking a significant step towards the port's realization.
The Lien Chieu port project, with its substantial investment and ambitious design, promises to enhance Danang's connectivity and trade capabilities. Upon completion, it will contribute significantly to the region's economic growth and development.
