Planck Introduces Layer-0 Blockchain for Decentralized AI Ecosystems

Planck, an infrastructure-focused protocol, has made a significant stride in the world of AI and blockchain by introducing Planck₀, a layer-0 blockchain tailored for decentralized AI ecosystems on July 16, 2025. This innovative blockchain aims to democratize access to GPU resources and decentralized AI infrastructure, addressing the current imbalance in the AI computing landscape where computational resources are largely controlled by a limited number of technology conglomerates.

Planck₀ is the world's first AI-specific, modular foundational blockchain, designed to support decentralized AI ecosystems and physical infrastructure networks (DePINs). Its key features include sovereign layer-1 chain launch capability with full governance control, shared validator infrastructure, cross-chain messaging, and instant interoperability without bridges or custom code.

One of the distinctive features of Planck₀ is its seamless cross-chain access and sharing of GPU compute resources. This enables efficient, low-friction AI training and inference at a fraction of the cost through a global network of $230 million in deployed specialized AI GPUs. The modular architecture of Planck₀ simplifies integrating AI models and compute directly into decentralized networks, removing manual connections between models and hardware.

In addition, Planck₀ includes an incentive engine with native $PLANCK staking, rewards, and fee mechanisms to align network participants. By allowing interoperable AI-native layer-1s, rollups, and decentralized physical infrastructure chains to share compute and security, Planck aims to multiply resource efficiency and foster collaborative development in decentralized AI ecosystems across multiple blockchains like Ethereum, BNB Chain, Near, and Polkadot.

The GPU-as-a-service market, of which Planck is a part, reached $4 billion in 2024 and is forecasted to expand at a 23% compound annual growth rate, potentially reaching $32 billion by 2034. This growth is driven by the increasing demand for compute resources, particularly due to an ongoing global shortage of AI chips.

Between February and July 2025, Planck reported generating $1.5 million in revenue, with the majority attributed to its GPU leasing operations. The blockchain generates revenue through multiple channels, including transaction fees, software development kit (SDK) usage, and developer tools.

DePINs, a concept integrated into Planck's blockchain, combine hardware devices, tokenized incentives, and distributed processing frameworks to provide decentralized alternatives to mainstream cloud-based AI systems. The decentralized model proposed by Planck can enable more accessible pricing and enhance the distribution and resilience of AI computing infrastructure.

Planck places itself among several emerging blockchain projects focused on AI, such as Bittensor and Fetch.ai. Its flexible hourly rental model may result in cost savings of up to 90% when compared to traditional centralized cloud services. The launch of Planck's layer-0 blockchain is a reflection of the broader convergence of blockchain and AI technologies, and a significant step towards a more decentralized future of AI development.
