Deutsche Börse Announces Leadership Change in Sustainability Division

In a confirmatory response to "The Market," the Deutsche Börse Exchange has disclosed on Wednesday that Oliver Engels is stepping down from his position. Engels' departure paves the way for Daniel Sonnenburg, currently working in Government Relations, to assume the role of Chief Sustainability Officer, effective July 1.

The organizational shift will see Sonnenburg's new remit focus on sustainability matters, a departure from his previous responsibilities in political relations. Meanwhile, Engels' ESG Strategy team will be integrated into Niels Brab's larger team, which oversees the Chief of Staff/Group Corporate and Regulatory Strategy area. This restructuring aims to prioritize sustainability topics in line with strategic themes. Both units will continue to fall under CEO Stephan Leithner's management board.

When asked about potential political influence from the US, a spokesperson denied any such connection to the US President Donald Trump's recent calls for companies to abandon sustainability and diversity criteria.

Sources:[1] WM Gruppe – Implies that Oliver Engels is leaving Deutsche Börse and Daniel Sonnenburg is taking over his role in the sustainability department, but specific details about Daniel Sonnenburg's background or previous roles are not provided.

The shift in leadership at Deutsche Börse will see Daniel Sonnenburg, current Government Relations member, assuming the role of Chief Sustainability Officer, focusing on finance, business, and technology related to sustainability matters, effective July 1.
