Deutsche Telekom's 5G Network Now Covers 99% of Germany Ahead of Schedule
Deutsche Telekom has swiftly expanded its 5G network, now covering 99% of the German population. The company achieved this ahead of schedule, driven by a significant network upgrade in August.
In August, Telekom added 132 new mobile sites and enhanced 533 existing ones. Notably, 128 sites were activated for 5G for the first time. The regions leading in 5G growth were North Rhine-Westphalia (24 new sites), Bavaria (23), and Baden-Württemberg (22).
The company aims to boost 90% of its sites to offer 1 Gbit/s speeds via its Ultra-Capacity Network. Additionally, 85% of sites will be connected to fiber with over 10 Gbit/s for robust backbone support. However, rural areas and some transportation routes still face network gap.
Telekom's 5G rollout has been rapid and extensive, with most progress in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg. Despite remaining gaps, the company plans to continue investing heavily to close these and improve overall network quality.
