Digital inclusion celebrated story by story, in one barangay after another, through GMEA@12
The Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA@12) is marking its 12th edition, with a focus on grassroots empowerment and digital inclusion. The theme for this year's awards, "Digitally Forward: One Barangay at a Time," emphasises journalism and storytelling that highlight how technology is being brought closer to micro-communities or barangays, enabling families, businesses, and communities to thrive and contribute to national progress[1][2].
This theme aligns closely with the Department of Information and Communications Technology's (DICT) agenda on digital inclusion by emphasising technology access and digital empowerment at the community level, promoting participation and growth in underserved areas[1]. The awards recognise impactful stories that reflect how digital tools and access improve lives in disadvantaged communities, supporting the DICT’s goal of leaving no one behind in the digital transformation process[1].
Categories and Submission Details
GMEA@12 consists of several categories, including Integrated Media, Digital Storytelling, and Special Awards. The Integrated Media category features awards for Online News Report of the Year, Photo of the Year, Radio News Report of the Year, and TV News Report of the Year. In the Digital Storytelling category, there are awards for Best Blog Post and Best Social Media Video[1].
New categories for GMEA@12 are Editor of the Year and Newsmaker of the Year. The submission period for GMEA@12 runs from July 21 to August 31, 2025. Media practitioners and content creators from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are invited to submit work published or aired between September 2024 and August 2025[1].
The submission portal for GMEA@12 will go live on July 30, 2025, on the website http://globe.com.ph. Entries for the awards will be judged based on content, storytelling style, impact, and integration. Special Awards will be given exclusively to First Place winners[1].

Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe, stated that the awards honour storytellers who embody purpose in action, lead with integrity, elevate truth, and help shape a future where no one is left behind[2]. The Globe of Good Story of the Year, formerly known as Kwentong Tagumpay Community, is included in the awards categories[1]. This category acknowledges stories that showcase the power of community and the impact of Globe's initiatives on improving lives in the Philippines.
