Michael Kozlowski, the editor-in-chief of a popular platform that covers the latest developments in the audiobook, e-Reader, e-paper, and digital publishing industry, resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The platform, which has been featured in various newspapers and websites such as the CBC, CNET, Engadget, Huffington Post, and the New York Times, recently reported on the latest trends in the e-reader market.

One of the key players in the industry is Onyx Boox, a brand that stands out due to its Android-based E Ink tablets. Unlike its competitors, Onyx Boox offers a wide range of devices with versatile functions beyond just reading or writing. The platform does not mention any new releases from Onyx Boox, Bigme, or other e-reader brands, but it is expected that over 130 e-readers, smartphones, and e-notes with e-paper displays will be released in 2022.

In the e-note space, Onyx Boox competes with brands like reMarkable, Amazon Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook, Lenovo, and others. The reMarkable series, including the Paper Pro, focuses primarily on writing and note-taking but is not the best choice for reading due to its dedicated functions. On the other hand, the Kindle products offer robust reading experiences, but they are less focused on note-taking and writing compared to Onyx Boox devices. Kobo offers e-readers with built-in bookstores and features like frontlights, which are beneficial for reading, but they provide color e-readers, which might appeal to those looking for a more versatile reading and writing experience. PocketBook devices like the InkPad Eo attempt to offer Android functionality with e-paper, competing with Onyx Boox in terms of Android integration and writing capabilities. Lenovo's Smart Paper is another E Ink tablet that competes with Onyx Boox, although it is more tied to Lenovo's cloud services and may be seen as less flexible compared to other options.

Onyx Boox sets itself apart by frequently dropping firmware updates every couple of months, ensuring its devices remain up-to-date and functional. The platform has also reported that Onyx Boox is one of the few brands that consistently release new products in the e-note space. However, the platform does not provide any further information about Onyx Boox, Bigme, or other e-reader brands.

Meanwhile, Kindle for Android from Google Play has dropped support for the purchasing of ebooks within the app, and the platform does not mention any upcoming changes or updates to this app, older Kindle e-readers, or the Send to Kindle feature. Send to Kindle will have support for EPUB books later this year, but it will cease supporting older formats. The Nook Glowlight 4e, Pocketbook Era, Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus, and multiple models from Hisense are among the e-readers released in the past two weeks.

The platform covers a range of platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, Youtube Music, and RSS, but it does not provide specific information about updates or changes in these platforms.

Bigme is an emerging brand that may soon challenge Onyx Boox in the e-note space, but they are currently a year behind. Older Kindle e-readers will have the store disabled in August 2022. Despite the intense competition, Onyx Boox continues to make strides in the e-note market with its Android-based E Ink tablets.

Firmware updates are regularly released for Onyx Boox devices to keep them functional and up-to-date, setting them apart from many competitors in the e-reader market. In the coming year, over 130 e-readers, smartphones, and e-notes with e-paper displays are expected to be released, potentially including new products from brands like Onyx Boox and Bigme.
