A 44-year-old man is in trouble after flying a drone over Munich's Oktoberfest without permission on Thursday evening. The incident caused chaos at Munich Airport, leading to flight cancellations and hundreds of passengers spending the night in terminals.
The drone was first spotted by police around 10:30 PM hovering over a beer garden in a festival tent. It wasn't until later that they connected this to the drone sightings causing disruptions at Munich Airport.
The unauthorized flight led to numerous flights being cancelled, stranding around 3,000 passengers. These passengers had to make do with camp beds set up in the terminals for the night.
The man responsible for the drone flight was identified and is now facing charges for violating aviation regulations and laws. He was released after paying a 1,000 euro security deposit. Police also seized the drone's memory card as part of their investigation.
