E-taxi charging facilities currently under development
In a significant move towards a greener future, Stadtwerke Lübeck has launched the first exclusive charging stations for electric taxis and rental cars at key locations across the city. These locations include the Central Station, Huxterdam, and Osterweide.
The expansion of charging infrastructure in Lübeck aims to improve air quality, reduce noise pollution, and significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative is part of Stadtwerke Lübeck's concession agreement, which secures their operation of the charging stations exclusively for electric taxis and rental cars for at least eight years.
Dr. Jens Meier, CEO of Stadtwerke Lübeck, expressed his enthusiasm for this development, stating, "We are creating the conditions for the switch to electric drives and making an important contribution to achieving climate goals."
The Lübeck taxi and realtor industry has shown support for this expansion, particularly appreciating the suitable locations near high-frequency areas such as the Central Station. This support aligns with the state of Schleswig-Holstein's Energy Transition and Climate Protection Act, which is linked to the regulation promoting climate-friendly drives in the taxi and realtor industry.
From 2035, taxis and rental cars may only be registered if they are emission-free in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The new charging stations, which allow for high-power charging with up to 150 kilowatts of power, will enable vehicles to quickly recharge and be ready for use again in a short time. This will undoubtedly aid in the transition to emission-free vehicles.
Another charging station on Ziegelstraße is expected to follow by the end of the year. The concession agreement provides a long-term commitment to the use of electric taxis and realtor cars in Lübeck, demonstrating Stadtwerke Lübeck's dedication to contributing to a greener city.
Mayor Jan Lindenau highlighted the importance of this proactive building of charging infrastructure, emphasizing that it creates planning security for the taxi and realtor industry. The new charging points in Lübeck can be used via an app or charging card, making them accessible and convenient for drivers.
This initiative not only benefits drivers but also passengers and society as a whole by improving public transport with the switch to electric taxis and realtor cars. The goal is to create a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable city for all.
