ICON 4x4 Unveils All-Electric Ford Bronco
ICON 4x4 has made a significant leap into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the unveiling of its first-ever all-electric Ford Bronco. This innovative vehicle promises strong electric performance, robust off-road capabilities, and unique EV-specific features that set it apart from traditional internal combustion Broncos.
Innovation and Performance
The electric Ford Bronco offers around 271 hp (202 kW) and instant electric torque, improving throttle response and off-road maneuverability compared to gasoline engines. Powering this EV is a dedicated EV platform featuring either single or dual motor setups, powered by a substantial ~105 kWh LiFePO₄ battery. There is also an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version that combines a ~43.7 kWh battery with a 1.5L turbocharged I4 petrol engine, acting solely as a generator, enhancing range without direct wheel power from the engine.
Off-Road Capabilities
The Bronco EV maintains impressive off-road geometry with a ground clearance up to 333 mm (13.1 inches) and water fording capability up to 940 mm (37 inches), enabling serious off-road exploration. Its electric powertrain allows instant torque delivery, which is especially beneficial for rock crawling and low-speed technical maneuvers. The Bronco EV also supports a towing capacity up to 2,041 kg (4,500 lbs) depending on trim, competitive for off-road trucks in its class.
Unique Features
The vehicle is built on a dedicated EV platform optimized for battery placement, vehicle balance, and ruggedness. The availability of fast charging and the battery chemistry offer durability and potentially better longevity. The EREV version is an innovative approach to electric vehicles by using a small petrol engine only as a generator, minimizing emissions while offering range flexibility. Pricing starts around $55,000 for a base BEV model and rises to over $70,000 for dual motor and off-road geared versions.
The EV Bronco "Blue Star"
In addition to the standard all-electric Bronco, ICON 4x4 has introduced a limited edition model, the EV Bronco "Blue Star". This unique vehicle features a blue exterior and white leather interior, with customization options available for the interior design. The EV Bronco "Blue Star" retains the same 105kWh engine, range of 175+ miles, power of over 500hp and 440lb.ft of torque, and 0-to-60 time of 4.5 seconds as the standard all-electric Bronco. It also includes features like CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, power windows, power door locks, AMP Research-powered steps, electric heat and AC, and an Advanced Reiger adjustable suspension.
The EV Bronco "Blue Star" is a bespoke experience, with clients working directly with ICON 4x4's founder Jonathan Ward. Only 10 examples of this limited edition model will be produced, making it a highly sought-after vehicle among EV and off-road enthusiasts.
