Electric vehicle charging infrastructure undergoing expansion in Bradford
In a significant move towards a greener future, the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council has announced plans to implement a phased LEVI Grant Funded Programme for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. This ambitious project aims to meet the growing demand for EV charging points in the district, without putting additional strain on the Council's budgets.
The programme, fully funded by grants from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the LEVI Capability Fund, is designed to extend the EV charging infrastructure in Bradford to cater to future demand. A total investment of £3.1m will be made in this initiative, which will be delivered by an experienced EV solutions contractor.
The projects will be divided into three phases, with the completion date set for the end of 2027. The programme's primary objective is to prepare sites for future demand, accelerate EV adoption, and ensure inclusivity in infrastructure delivery, particularly in areas of high housing densities without off-street parking.
According to modelling work by Transport for the North, between 4,580 and 5,100 destination charge points are estimated to be needed in Bradford by 2030. The programme aims to provide 1,000 new charge points over 230 locations across the district, contributing significantly to these figures.
The scheme also emphasises equity of access and social value through design and procurement. This includes considerations for pricing, ease of use, accessibility, and local community needs, ensuring that electric mobility becomes a reality for all residents, workers, and visitors in the district.
This initiative aligns with Bradford Council's clean air and sustainability targets, as well as the achievement of the 2038 net zero targets. The projects are expected to play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality in the district.
The CiTTi Awards, an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector, will recognise achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure on November 26, 2025, at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. It remains to be seen if the Bradford Council's LEVI Grant Funded Programme will be among the honourees.
As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, initiatives like this one in Bradford are paving the way for a cleaner, greener, and more electric future. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.
