Speaking of lights, Utrecht's stakes in the renewable energy game couldn't be higher. With 35% of its roofs already adorned with solar panels, Utrecht is a frontrunner among European cities in renewable energy implementation. And just in case you needed more proof of their commitment to the green cause, Utrecht energized launched in November 2024 with a mission to support the city's transition towards an ecological metropolis and boost the adoption of alternative transportation solutions, ranging from public to shared options.

The Utrecht energized project debuted with a fleet of 50 Renault 5 E-Tech Electric vehicles made available through a car-sharing service managed by MyWheels. We Drive Solar supplied the necessary public infrastructure to support these pioneering EVs, with plans to integrate more E-Tech Electric models into the fleet later on. The ultimate goal? To amass a whopping 500 vehicles by the end of 2026, providing up to 10% of the flexibility needed to match the electricity generated by solar and wind energy systems during peak hours.

Keeping it all running smoothly is MyWheels, the leading car-sharing company in the Netherlands. Renault is teaming up with MyWheels to rally for policies that encourage this kind of green innovation.
