New Free Energy Advice Service Launches in North of Tyne Region

The North of Tyne Combined Authority is set to launch a new free energy advice service this Spring, aimed at helping residents save money on energy costs and stay warm during winter. The service, funded with £2m from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, includes a website with energy-saving advice and customized home reports offering recommendations for warmer homes using less energy, saving money in the long-run.

The service is part of a larger commitment to deliver a retrofit program for the North East. Dame Norma Redfearn DBE, Chair of the Housing and Land Board, stated that the service will support local jobs and help residents reduce their energy bills. The service is also aimed at protecting residents' pockets and their health, as cold, poorly insulated homes pose a higher risk of health issues for residents.

The UK is currently facing its worst energy crisis, with typical household energy bills increasing by 54% in April 2022 and 27% in October 2022, leaving bills 59% above their winter 2021/22 levels despite lower wholesale prices. The service is intended to help reduce carbon emissions, as every £1 invested in retrofitting homes saves the NHS 42p.

Expert advisors will be available for over-the-phone consultations for residents who prefer human assistance. One event was held in Hebburn on Tuesdays from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm, suggesting ongoing local drop-in advice sessions are available to the public. The service is being developed in collaboration with the Energy Saving Trust.

No further details about formal eligibility or extended services were specified, but related regional initiatives offer energy support and funding for businesses and community projects, which may complement this advice service. The new energy service is set to launch in early August 2025, implying it is open to anyone in the North of Tyne area seeking energy advice.

As the energy crisis continues, this new service offers a practical solution for residents seeking to reduce their energy bills, improve their homes' energy efficiency, and stay warm during the winter months.

  1. residents in the North of Tyne region can find guidance on environmental-science matters, specifically personal-finance related to their energy consumption, through the new free energy advice service launching this Spring.
  2. By investing in the retrofit program for the North East, aimed at improving housing efficiency and reducing energy costs, the UK government hopes to conserve resources in the field of science, such as lowering carbon emissions while also protecting residents' health and personal-finance.
  3. As technology advances and the energy crisis persists, this new service, scheduled to launch in early August 2025, capitalizes on the benefits of both human experts and digital resources, offering a combination of website advice, over-the-phone consultations, and local drop-in sessions for comprehensive energy management assistance.
