Enterprise Database Migration Demand Surges Amidst Industry Shifts

Enterprise demand for database migration support is surging, with many businesses planning migrations for the 2026 budget cycle. Recent industry shifts, such as the Broadcom acquisition of VMware, are driving organizations to reassess their reliance on vendors.

A recent survey of over 300 IT leaders across various sectors reveals the challenges and benefits of database migrations. The top motivators for these transitions are removing vendor lock-in, reducing licensing costs, and enhancing scalability. However, only 6% of respondents completed their most complex migration on time.

AI has proven effective in migrations, with 77% of respondents finding it beneficial. Yet, downtime remains a significant issue. Nearly half of respondents experienced five or more hours of downtime during their most challenging migration. This downtime leads to customer experience issues, lost revenue, and operational slowdowns. The costs of an hour of downtime are substantial, including lost productivity, disrupted workflows, and potential penalties or wage continuations.

Caylent, an AWS partner, anticipates supporting more enterprises in modernizing their systems in the coming years. The top three time-intensive tasks in complex migrations are moving data, testing the target database, and converting schemas.

As enterprise demand for migration support grows, so does the need to manage downtime effectively. AI is proving valuable in migrations, but organizations must address the time-consuming tasks involved to ensure successful transitions. Caylent, among other providers, is poised to support more enterprises in this critical process.
