Expands IoT Security Prowess with Acquisition of First PSA Level 4 Certification Worldwide
Silicon Labs, a leading innovator in the smart home, industrial IoT, and smart cities markets, has made a significant stride in securing the future of IoT devices. The company's Series 3 Secure Vault security subsystem on the SiXG301 System-on-Chip (SoC) has achieved the world's first PSA Level 4 certification.
Highest Level of Security Assurance
PSA Level 4 is the highest certification level by PSA Certified, ensuring the device is resilient against the most advanced physical attacks such as laser fault injection, side-channel attacks, microprobing, and voltage manipulation. This level of security provides an unprecedented level of attack resistance and security reliability tailored for smart home and IoT devices.
Multi-Core Architecture and Robust Memory
The SiXG301 SoC includes an ARM Cortex-M33 core running up to 150 MHz for application development, along with dedicated cores for radio and security functions. This architecture enhances both performance and security isolation. Additionally, the device offers up to 4MB Flash and 512kB RAM, allowing it to handle demanding applications, including simultaneous support for Zigbee and Matter protocols over Thread.
Future-Proof Security Design
The security subsystem and SoC are engineered to withstand threats for over a decade in the field, addressing emerging and theoretical cybersecurity threats with industry-leading defenses. The platform also supports continuous security maintenance throughout the device lifecycle with over-the-air firmware/software updates and real-time monitoring.
Regulatory Compliance Enablement
The Secure Vault subsystem helps meet regulatory requirements like the EU's Radio Equipment Directive (RED), facilitating easier market access and compliance for device manufacturers.
Proven Industry Leadership
Silicon Labs has a history of pioneering PSA Certified security levels 1 through 3, reinforcing their legacy of embedding trust and security at the core of connected IoT technology. The company collaborated with Keysight Technologies to validate Secure Vault on Series 3 for PSA Level 4. Keysight's experts noted the seamless partnership with Silicon Labs' engineering team, and Marc Witteman, Technical Director at Keysight Technologies, stated Keysight's pride in supporting Silicon Labs in achieving the world's first PSA Level 4 certification.
Looking Ahead
All Silicon Labs' Series 3 devices are planned to feature an industry-leading enhanced security foundation. The SiXG301 SoC is expected to be the first Series 3 device to market with PSA Level 4 certification in Q3 2025. Developers can register for a webinar, "Stay Ahead of Global IoT Security Regulations with Silicon Labs," to learn how to integrate RED-ready security into their products.
Silicon Labs' solutions, support, and ecosystems enable device makers to create advanced edge connectivity applications with confidence, ensuring a secure future for the IoT.
