In a significant development, AIR, a leading OEM for midsize eVTOLs, has received FAA Experimental Airworthiness Certification for its US-based eVTOL prototype. This certification marks a significant milestone in AIR's expansion to the US and allows for flight testing at AIR's facility near West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Florida facility will play a central role in AIR's ongoing testing, validating performance, safety, and real-world operability of the eVTOL aircraft. The aircraft, designed for both personal and commercial needs, can operate from any flat surface, offering a versatile and efficient solution.

The eVTOL platform enables both a piloted two-seater for personal use and an uncrewed version for commercial cargo and contested logistics. It boasts a flight time of up to one hour per charge, a 550-pound payload capacity, and a top speed of 155mph (250km/h).

AIR is working closely with the FAA to ensure that its eVTOL aircraft meet the highest safety and regulatory standards. The company is poised to be the first eVTOL aircraft to receive Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) certification, thanks to the recent FAA MOSAIC ruling.

The certification is not related to the electrification of propulsion or actuators, as mentioned in later articles. However, it does open up opportunities for further collaboration, such as the one between AIR and the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).

This collaboration is focused on creating a groundbreaking cryogenic cooling system, designed specifically for hydrogen-electric aircraft. HyFlux is also part of this collaboration, aiming to create a novel solution for the future of sustainable aviation.

Rani Plaut, AIR's CEO, stated that the certification is a green light to advance the company's mission and expand its US footprint. The collaboration is not mentioned to be part of AIR's expansion or testing, as mentioned in the earlier bullet points.

While Matthew Smith, a managing director responsible for Loans and Distressed Trading at Oppenheimer Europe Limited, is not related to AIR, his work in the global investment banking sector undoubtedly contributes to the overall growth and development of the sustainable aviation industry.

This collaboration and certification mark a significant step towards a more sustainable future for aviation, with AIR leading the way in the development and testing of eVTOL technology.
