Lowdown on the Next-Gen Samsung Smartwatches
We're on the cusp of finding out what Samsung has cooked up for its latest smartwatch lineup. Leaks from dependable source Evan Blass give us a sneak peek at the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
Joining the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, the new generation of folding phones, and the Galaxy A56 is expected to be Samsung's latest range of smartwatches. Rumors concerning the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and possible Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE have been swirling as well, but three smartwatches are set to make an appearance in 2022 – that's a change from the two introductions of last year.
What's New on the Block?
Galaxy Watch 8- Adeptly redesigned compared to the Galaxy Watch 7, presenting something new after a long hiatus.- Added two side keys, ditching the traditional crown.
Galaxy Watch 8 Classic- Wields a squircle design inspired by the Galaxy Watch Ultra, but with a rotating bezel – a beloved feature that Samsung chose to omit in 2024.
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2- Although no official confirmation has been given regarding the name of the new model, it seems likely to be the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025).- It sports a cleaner and more refined look compared to the original Ultra model.
As for the software and features, both the Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic will run on the latest One UI 8 Watch based on Wear OS 6. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will introduce Samsung's new AI assistant, Gemini, which provides hands-free functionalities like gym locker number recall and email summarization. New additions to Samsung Health include a personal health coach, a "vascular load" metric for sleep-related stress detection, and advanced BioActive sensors for heart rate, ECG, SpO2, and skin temperature monitoring.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 has not yet seen detailed updates, but it is anticipated that it will boast enhanced durability and advanced health tracking, similar to earlier Ultra watches.
According to the leaks, the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is slated for July 9, 2022. We'll know the pricing details and official specifications then, so stay tuned! Sign up for our newsletter to receive updates straight to your inbox.
