Get a quick charge for your electric vehicle (EV) during your road trips, thanks to Hessen! They've just opened the first unattended motorway service area with E-charging stations on the A4 motorway at the Seulingswald service area between Wildeck-Hönebach and Friedewald junctions, heading towards Bad Hersfeld.

Michael Güntner, CEO of Autobahn GmbH, expressed their commitment to fostering electric mobility by building 1,000 fast-charging points at 200 locations on unattended motorway service areas nationwide as part of the Deutschlandnetz project. Eleven private companies are constructing and managing the charging parks on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport.

The Deutschlandnetz project aims to establish a comprehensive and user-friendly fast-charging infrastructure for electric vehicles throughout the country, particularly in rural areas, at unattended motorway service areas, and in cities. In total, 4,000 fast-charging points are planned on German highways, providing charging stations approximately every ten driving minutes.

The Seulingswald service area offers three charging stations, each with two connections. By 2026, similar facilities are expected to open at three more motorway service areas in Hessen, according to Autobahn GmbH. The power output is sufficient to charge a mid-sized EV in ten minutes, providing enough energy for 300 to 500 kilometers, depending on the vehicle's consumption. The facility will operate using green energy and accept common charging cards, as well as debit and credit cards.

Electric vehicle drivers can already charge their vehicles at numerous attended motorway service areas. In Hessen, there are a total of 156 charging points available at such locations, according to a spokesperson from the Autobahn Tank & Rast Group. "The offer of fast-charging points at Tank & Rast locations is well-received. This is particularly true for locations near urban centers and heavily frequented highways, such as the A3, A4, and A7 in Hessen. The charging stations are frequently utilized, especially during holiday seasons."
