Flexible Motorola Smartphone Unveiled, Designed to Circle Your Wrist
Motorola Unveils Bendable Smartphone Prototype with Generative AI Customization
At the 2023 Tech World event, Motorola reintroduced a unique concept that has been in the works for several years: the bendable smartphone. This prototype, which is still in development, features an FHD+ pOLED plastic display and a fabric-covered back for comfort.
The bendable phone can adjust from a flat 6.9-inch screen to a self-standing position of 4.6 inches. What sets this device apart, however, is its adaptive display concept. Motorola aims to extend display and mechanical advancements from foldable and rollable devices across both smartphone and PC categories.
The bendable phone also boasts a generative AI model for user customization. This innovative feature allows users to adjust the phone's background to match their outfits, adding a personal touch to the device.
The concept of the bendable phone isn't new to Motorola. An earlier iteration was announced during the Lenovo Tech World Summit in 2016, but it didn't gain much hype and remained low-profile. The later version unveiled at the 2023 event is the latest version of the phone, with previous iterations having been unveiled before.
It's important to note that the bendable smartphone prototype is just that – a prototype. Motorola has not announced plans for a public release as of August 2025. The earlier iterations of the bendable phone were mostly treated as fun novelties at the time.
In contrast, Motorola's latest foldable smartphones, including the Razr 2025 series, are available for purchase starting August 7, 2025. These models focus on hardware updates and luxury design editions, such as the Brilliant Collection with Swarovski crystals, but there's no information indicating the availability of a bendable phone prototype with generative AI features yet.
If Motorola does have plans for a bendable smartphone prototype incorporating generative AI customization, no official release timeline or detailed announcement has been made public as of August 2025. The new prototype, designed to be worn on the wrist and bend for easy interaction with the external display, promises to be an exciting development in the world of smartphones.
