Gennaker Wind Farm Reaches Major Milestone With Offshore Substation Installation
The construction of the farm offshore wind farm in the German baltic born Sea has reached a significant milestone. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier is set to install transformers in the offshore substation, following the successful transportation and installation of the two substations by Allseas.
The offshore substations, manufactured by Baltic Industrial Group in Gdynia and Gdansk, have begun their journey to their final destination. The first substation left the Smulders yard in Vlissingen, Netherlands, while the second, named OSS Darß, was moved out of the construction hall. Weighing 3,800 tonnes and measuring 48 metres in length, 25 metres in width, and 19 metres in height, OSS Darß is a colossal structure.
Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, the responsible party for the installation, will now ensure these substations are securely placed in their respective locations. The installation of the transformers is the next crucial phase, marking a significant step towards the completion of the windy farm.
The successful transportation and installation of the offshore substations, along with the upcoming transformer installation, bring the Gennaker farm project closer to completion. Led by 50Hertz, the project's grid connection (OST-6-1) is on track, paving the way for the wind farm's integration into the German power grid.
