Drone Technology Supplied Despite Embargo - Several Years in Prison - German Businessmen Jailed for Illegally Supplying Russian Drones
Two German businessmen have been sentenced for illegally supplying electronic components to Russia, despite an ongoing embargo. The men, aged 34 and 51, were found guilty of organising violations of foreign trade law and received prison terms of six years and nine months, and three years and six months respectively.
The defendants, who were not named in public sources, played significant roles in their company following Russia's attack on Ukraine. They facilitated deliveries of embargoed goods via third countries, including Armenia, China, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates. The illegal shipments, valued at over one million euros, included diodes, circuits, and transistors, which could be used in military drones.
The men knew the goods were listed in the Russia embargo regulation. They prioritised deception and concealment, with specific companies or organisations involved in the illegal supply chain not publicly detailed. The convictions mark a stern warning against such activities during international crises.
The court's decision sends a clear message that violating embargoes will not be tolerated. The defendants' actions undermined international sanctions and potentially aided Russia's war efforts. Their significant prison terms reflect the gravity of their crimes.
